↑ "Interior" and "inland" do not refer here to the mountainous interior of Peru proper. All of the Norte Chico sites are broadly coastal, within 100 kilômét (62 dặm) of the coast and within the Peruvian littoral (Caral is 23 kilômét (14 dặm) inland). "Interior" and "inland" are used here to contrast with sites that are literally adjacent to the ocean.
